National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 132 Scholarship Rules
National Scholarship Committee
1. Lone Star Branch 132 of the National Association of Letter Carriers will award up to five $1,000 Scholarships a year to applicants who are selected by the Scholarship Committee. The winners must meet all eligibility requirements as determined by the Branch and described below.
2. The Scholarship Committee will be formed of four volunteers selected from Branch 132 and Auxiliary 28, and a fifth member will be selected from the local Educational Community. These five volunteers will be appointed each year by the Branch President.
3. Eligibility Requirements:
A. Applicant must be a high school senior at the time of application.
B. Applicant must be accepted to an accredited college or university and be willing to provide documentation of acceptance.
C. Applicant must submit copy of high school transcript and SAT or ACT test scores at the time of application. Additional personal information, such as community activities, teacher recommendations, or special achievements, is welcome, but not required.
D. Applicant must be a son or daughter or grandson or granddaughter of an active, retired or deceased City Letter Carrier who is a member of NALC Branch 132. Branch member must be a member in good standing for at least one year. Children of deceased members are eligible provided the widow/ widower had not remarried. Legally adopted or verifiable dependents (income tax records, divorce records, etc.) are also eligible.
E. Relatives of members of the Scholarship Committee are ineligible to receive a Branch 132 Scholarship during the year that the family member serves on the Committee.
F. Applicant must enroll as a full-time student at an accredited college or university.
G. Scholarships are non-renewable and will only be given for the first year of enrollment.
H. If unusual conditions require a postponement of schooling, the recipient must state reason(s) in writing to the Scholarship Committee and request that the Scholarship be held in abeyance. Request(s) will be received by the Committee and a decision rendered by the Union, acted as a 204B within the previous 24 months, or enters supervision, the Scholarship will be cancelled.
4. Checks for the NALC Branch 132 Scholarship will be written to the college/ university and will be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or room and board.

Scholarship Winners
At the July Branch Meeting, the scholarship winners for 2022 were announced. Treasurer Steve Ellenberg coordinated the Scholarship Committee. The branch gave four scholarships of $1000 each and the Auxiliary gave out a $1000 scholarship. The recipients of the branch scholarships are Taylor Reese Dickson, Essien Cooper, Caitlyn Gloria and Riley Dean Kirk. Brandi Meredith received the scholarship from the Auxiliary. At the August meeting, Graduate Essien Cooper, along with her family, and President Kim Lewis gathered for a group picture. Best wishes to all of the graduates.

Texas State Association of Letter Carriers The Pete Goodman /Anne Jefferson / Doug Meador / T.T. Morris Memorial Scholarships Eligibility Criteria
1. The applicant must be the son, daughter, step-child or foster child with legal guardianship, or an active, retired or deceased Letter Carrier.
2. The applicant’s parent, if living, must be eligible voting member of the TSALC with at least one-year membership prior to making application. If deceased, applicant’s parent must have been an eligible voting member with at least one-year membership prior to death.
3. The applicant must be a high school senior when making application and must submit the attached forms to the TSALC Vice-President / Director of Education at the address indicated on this letter. The application must be signed by the applicant, the applicant’s eligible parent or stepparent and the Branch Secretary or Treasurer of the NALC.
4. All applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or the American College Test (ACT) with applicant being responsible for the required fees of above-named tests. It is recommended that the applicant test as soon as possible.
5. Applicants are judged based on their secondary scholastic records, personal qualifications and the results of their SAT / ACT. To be eligible for full consideration of the scholarship award, the following must be submitted.
1. The Pete Goodman / Anne Jefferson / Doug Meador / T.T. Morris Memorial Scholarships Application.
2. The TSALC Scholarship questionnaire
3. SAT or ACT scores
4. Official certified school transcripts showing grade point average, rank in class and at least a portion of the grades for the senior year.
NOTE: You may also submit any reference letters from teachers, church leaders, employers, etc. that may offer additional information for consideration. The deadline for submitting this information is May 31, 2023.
6. Four (4) $2,000 scholarships are awarded each year. The scholarships are good for one (1) year only. The winners will be announced at the State Convention in odd-numbered years and by other means in even-numbered years.
7. The Scholarship Committee will consist of the TSALC President, Vice-President, Director of Education, Director of Retirees and the TSALC Auxiliary President.
8. The Scholarship recipients may attend an accredited college of their choice. Proof of acceptance must be provided to the TSALC Secretary by June 30, 2022. The award money is deposited with the college selected by the student to be credited to an account in their name to be drawn upon according to the rules and regulations as established by the college. The award may be used for all college fees including room and board.
9. If a Scholarship recipient decides not to attend college in the fall following graduation, the scholarship will be awarded to the first available alternate. If a recipient suffers a certified serious illness and is unable to attend as scheduled, the award will be held in abeyance for not more than one (1) year from the date originally scheduled.
